Help Us Reach Our Goal and Ensure Another Year of Quality Service

Update 9/1/20: Due to an overwhelming interest in our donation drive we have decided to extend the "Save Local Journalism" campaign by one week. Donate by Monday Sept. 7, 2020 and ensure quality, independent reporting stays in Alhambra and the Western San Gabriel Valley.

Help Save Alhambra Source and Local Reporting in Your Community!

As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, we’ve adapted to become a news publisher that follows the pandemic and all the topics of interest it has spawned: reopening businesses, going back to school, preserving mental health, and living in the aftermath of it all. But this type of crucial local reporting can’t survive without the financial support of our readers.

In order to continue reporting on these vital stories and continue serving these communities, we have launched our 2020 Summer Donor Drive from Aug. 16 - Sept. 7. Our goal is to raise $50,000. Help save local reporting in the Western SGV and support our upcoming election coverage. Become a donor today and ensure your community stays educated, engaged, and connected.

This year we’ve reached over 50,000 monthly visitors to our website, proving that our coverage continues to be vital to all that live, work, and play in our community. If half of these readers step up and make a tax-deductible donation, we can reach our goal and save essential news in our community. Help us save Alhambra Source!

How the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act affects your donation

Signed on March 27, 2020, the CARES Act granted an above-the-line universal charitable deduction up to $300 by donors who take the standard deduction. No need to itemize. This charitable giving incentive reduces a donor's income for 2020.

Above-the-line universal charitable deduction guidelines:

  • Gifts must be made in cash.
  • Gifts must be made in 2020 (or after; this is not currently limited to just this year), and cannot be carried over from excess contributions made in a prior year yet treated as made in 2020.
  • Gifts made are eligible for the above-the line deduction in addition to the standard deduction

Utilize this incentive and make a $300 donation today! Click here to read Sec. 2204 of the CARES Act.

2019 Journalism & Civic Engagement Highlights

  • Presented "How Not To Be Broke #2: A Financial Literacy Workshop for Uncertain Times," a free financial literacy workshop, which taught graduating seniors from Alhambra Unified School District (ASUD) the essentials in how to think about money, loans and credit. Co-sponsors included AUSD, the Credit Union of Southern California, Alhambra Latino Association, and the American First National Bank.
  • Coordinated the"2020 Census Storytelling Contest" with AUSD as co-sponsor. Local students were invited to become census ambassadors submitting stories that answered prompts about the census, their family’s process in filling out the census or offered possible solutions to get under counted communities counted.
  • Best of Nonprofit News 2019: The Institute for Nonprofit News recognized Alhambra Source in the "Local Investigations" category for reporting on the possible displacement of Alhambra's Sikh Temple.
  • I-710 Stub: We have been in the forefront of telling you the ins and outs of state legislative efforts to end efforts to complete the I-710 Freeway and take the I-710 stub, which ends at Valley Blvd., out of the state highway system.
  • Sikh Saga: Alhambra's Sikh community may lose its longtime home in Alhambra due to property owner’s plans to redevelop their current property, on Chapel Ave., into a multi-use condominium. Our reporting on this issue showed the nuances of the city permit process and explained issues with required notifications. It continued our tradition of giving immigrant communities a voice in the discussion.
  • "Affordable Housing Forum": We joined Asian Americans Advancing Justice-LA and Grassroots Alhambra in hosting a housing forum, which brought 150 residents together to raise awareness on the issues surrounding affordable housing and connect residents to resources that could help them find options.
  • Media Sponsor, 626 Golden Streets: The cross-SGV event started in South Pasadena, went through downtown Alhambra, and ended at the San Gabriel Mission and brought 20,000 cyclists, runners and walkers to the SGV all intent on exploring alternative forms of transit.
  • Media Sponsor, Alhambra Latino Association Fundraising Banquet: The annual fundraiser celebrates Latino heritage and raises money for scholarships that go to Latino seniors, heading off to college, from the Alhambra Unified School District.
